I found a website whose contents are from a 19th century book entitled "Boy' Manual of Seamanship and Gunnery""

http://www.pbenyon.plus.com/B_S_M/Contents.html

It is a guide for boys entering the British Navy, and has cornucopia of interesting information, from how to salute, to knot tying, to how to hoist a top onto a mast, among lots of other technical tidbits.

That's a great page, and a great site!

Thanks,

What a find!  I don't think I've run into this book before.  I gather the owner of the website is in the process of putting the illustrations on it.  When they're available the site will be even better.

Youth, talent, hard work, and enthusiasm are no match for old age and treachery.

I have come across references to this book before, but never in its entirety.  This is a good resource.

Thanks for providing the link.
