Wonder if putting a small mattress on it would make a small cot. Perfect for sleepovers!

I can't imagine and, in fact the more I think about, I'm afraid to ask what it would cost!

According to the ad, it would be less than $600 US for the kit. Not bad for something that's over 15' long. Just think: a place to display all those 1/72 scale aircraft! Who needs diorama bases?

Wow. Indeed.

Imagine the cost of that thing. Imagine the cost of the airwing. Imagine the time it will take you to complete everything. Imagine the look on your wife's face when you put it right in the middle of your living room.

This for me has got to be the answer for "If you were to build one last kit..."

No bucks, no Buck Rogers

There use to be a company called "super ship models" who built large scale fiber glass model ships back in the mid 80's.
They use to make a 1:72 scale Nimitz model.
The hull and deck came in three pieces and the island was a separate piece.
I have the building instructions for this kit.
An article was written about this model in FSM back in August 86 I believe.

Hi, folks!
Let's see...that ad was on page 366 of this month's Hobby Japan, which I have in front of me now, so here we go:

Limited production (get it quick!) 1/72 scale "papercraft" Nimitz.
Full kit is 68,000 yen ($576)
The island by itself is 7,800 yen ($66)
4 meters 60 centimeters long! Waterline model.
With the island only kit, you can convert it to represent the CVN-69 Eisenhower or CVN-70 Carl Vinson.

In the shaded box:
This papercraft kit is a whopping 4m 60cm long. This kit represents the US Navy's nuclear aircraft carrier Nimitz as it appeared in the film "The Final Countdown," when it came across the attack on Pearl Harbor.
The Nimitz looks the coolest with a Jolly Rogers Tomcat on the flightdeck.

There ya go, fellas!

It would probably make a great bar in the basement - I like the 1/72 scale aircraft display base idea.

Oh.... the possibilities!!!

Just think, each of the aircraft would have to built from 1/72 kits, individually painted and decaled.
Miles of masking tape for the flight deck markings

I could throw that in a river and have myself my very own floating aircraft carrier!! Think of what the neighbors would say... Big Smile [:D]Smile [:)]

My question is what exactly is this "papercraft?" Some kinda cardboard, I'd guess.
If I see this kit in a shop over here, I'll give ya the big report.

In the US, the Scale Shipyard makes a 1/96 scale Nimitz hull (but you have to add the flight deck sponsors yourself.

http://www.scaleshipyard.com

They also make 1/96 scale Wasp Class LHD, Essex Class and lots more.

If you would like to check out other large scale models, take a peek at my website, Warship Models Underway:

http://www.warshipmodelsunderway.

Be sure to look at the 31 foot model of HMS Invincible in Gallery 6...
