? about Sumner class destroyers
Posted by mustang10 on Friday, March 24, 2006 9:05 AM
Hello everyone, I would like to honor my late father by building the USS Laffey (DD724) which he served on in 44 and 45. Iv'e done a little research and Yankee Modelworks seems to be the only one out there, I'm cool with the resin and the price. My question to everyone is this,  of the 2 Sumner class ships they have, which would be closest in shape, the early british bridge or the revised bridge? I'm not a huge rivet counter, but I'd like it to be close in shape. Perhaps someone knows of a website or a good book? Many, Many thanks in advance!!      Joe Mickish

Contact John Sheridan of Yankee Modelworks directly.

jrsheridan at yankeemodelworks.com
(replace " at " with @,  to keep the spammage to a minimum)

John is a good guy to do business with and can more than likely answer your questions.  John can even likely provide mix-n-match to do the Laffey if that is necessary

See too the Laffey page on Navsource

Laffey had the early-style bridge and low 40mm boxes.

The DeHaven kit is the one you want. I'm not sure if DeHaven had low 40mm boxes or not, if it doesn't, let me know, I have them in my spares box.

If you need detail shots, let me know. I wrote a book on the class.
