HMS Caledonia's design
Posted by kapudan_emir_effendi on Saturday, April 1, 2006 6:36 AM

Greetings,

While examining the hull plans of 120 gun SoL HMS Caledonia and the French Sané designed 120 (a.k.a Commerce de Marseilles class), I remarked that their lines are in a such degree of similarity that it can't be just a coincidence. May the british had copied the lines of the french ship ?

All the best

Don't surrender the ship !

The British often did copy good foreign designs, if they had one to use as a guideline.  The Royal Navy had this nasty habit of winning most of it's battles and tended to get lots of free ships that way!
