Sponson help on CVN-65
Posted by mfsob on Thursday, April 6, 2006 11:00 PM
I've got that ghastly hull joint on my Enterprise about as smooth as it's going to get, and am now staring at my first big scratchbuilding hurdle - the two sponsons that were added forward for the Sea Sparrow and CIWS mounts. The shape of the deck platforms was no problem, because they're flat, but I am at a loss as to how to duplicate the complex curved shapes underneath. Would it be easier to glue some kind of framework underneath and then tack sheet styrene to that, or just try and shape each piece of sheet styrene?
