Philippine Navy LST
Posted by jepot on Friday, April 7, 2006 8:20 AM

Here's a link to an LST I built for a friend.

http://timawa.net/forum/index.php?topic=3602.0

Its the Lindberg LST kit that i initially built to represent the LT 504 of the Philippine Navy- but my friend asked me to convert it to the LT 501 midway so I wasnt able to correct some minor modifications of the LT 501.

The LT 501 ( BRP Laguna) used to be the LST 230 which served in Normandy back in 1944- and the LT 501 is still in active service with the Philippine Navy.

Good looking LST! Where did you get the plans for it? You may want to replace the stern anchor chain with wire, though....I served aboard a USN LST and we used 1 7/8" wire for the beaching anchor - you need a little "give" when you've got 600' of wire out, and chain just doesn't make the grade.

I can remember an abandoned LST that was grounded in Subic Bay back in the early seventies, any chance of a relationship with the 504?

thanks for the inputs! maybe when i build my other two LST projects I would take note of your suggestions; i based the kit on pics i have of the 501 and other PN LSTS that i have in my PC...

The LST I saw was the old style, without the arms for extending the bow ramp. I had heard that she was transferred to the Phillippine Navy from the US Navy in the sixties.
