HMS Victory - one more picture to compare the models
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, April 27, 2006 9:29 AM

Hi, all!

Well, I am 44 and I am like a little boy when I get a new model.  Finally, I have my 1/100 Heller HMS Victory model.

I post a new picture with the half hulls of the models, including now the 1/600 Airfix and the 1/100 Heller models.

1 : 1/600 Airfix    2 : Pyro/Life-Like model  3 : Revell 1/146   4 : UPC/Entex  5 : Lindberg 1/400/Revell 1/225 (sic)    6 : Airfix 1/180    7 : Heller 1/100

Well, I think, that's all about the plastic kits of HMS Victory, I do not think, that I'll find a different model, there are still the 1/500 Lindberg model (but it must be a reissue of one of the models of the picture) and the hypothetical old  UPC model.

Please, do not forget me, if you can find a different plastic kit of HMS Victory, send me some pictures, I can even buy it at a reasonable price.

Michel

Hi,

I believe I found one more for your collection I do not know thw scale but here is the ebay link.  It's made by Pyro. I thinks it's smaller than the Airfix 1/600, but not sure.

I am also 44 and my wife says the same about me. She often asks why I am just looking at the parts in the box. It is research, I tell her!

Michel,

It's amazing how different the different kits look. That all seem to have different proportions above and below the water line.

Which do you think it the most accurate?

Is the caption for #5 correct? Is it Lindberg 1/400/Revell 1/225?

By the way can you indicate what the correct scale is on this kits as opposed to advertised?

Well, it is the model Nr.2 on the picture, you can see it here :

It was later sold by Life-Like too.

Well, I am now busy with the measurements.  The Airfix "1/180" (scale is 1/171) seems to be accurate, but I  could not compare the size of the 1/100 Heller and the 1/146 Revell models yet.  I'll post some drawings with the various scales in my website.

Right, as you can see in this picture :

http://www.hmsvictoryscalemodels.be/ModelscomparedModlescomparsMichelvrtg/photos/photo4.html

Revell and Lindberg sold the same model, Revell sold it as a 1/225 scale model, and Lindberg sold it as a 1/400 scale model.

The only difference between the two models is funny, it can be seen here :

Also, thank you Powder Monkey and Donnie for your help.Big Smile [:D]

Wow, I appreciate all of the direct comparisons - great job. Soooooo what is you philosophy; build a smaller (read 'less expensive') HMS Victory to work out all of the bugs and plan the major build, or dive right in and save the small fry for a slow weekend??

BTW if you want to see a truly expert ,spectacular ,phenominal build of the Heller/Airfix 1/100 HMS Victory (and Soliel Royal among others )--- modelversium.de. Dont be turned off by the German language it is evidently a small universe of unbelivably talented builders harassing each other in the friendliest possible way.

Again great job and I'm working on the Revell 1/96 USS United States to get tuned up for my own Victory

In case you haven't seen it yet, there is also an entire forum dedicated to the Victory.  I just found it the other day.  They also do other sailing ships.  It is the "The Airfix / Heller 1:100th HMS Victory Modellers Forum (Includes Other Ships From The Age Of Sail)", and here is a link.

It is an excellent site.  I just joined earlier this week.  The site has lots of tips, data, etc... on the different build stages, including Out of the Box building.

You will have to register in order to read any of the postings...
