I suggest that you be a bit creative and get a block of Balsa wood carve it to the right shape then overlay plistic card over the top

Nope - the old Matchbox kit was strictly waterline also.  No hull bottom.

Did the old Matchbox Indianapolis include a full hull? If it did you could probably kitbash that.

Hello all,

I have Tamiya's 1/700 USS Indianapolis.  It's a waterline model.  I would really like to have a full hull version of this kit.  Does anyone know of aftermarket products that convert a waterline ship to a full hull ship?  If not, does anyone know where I can get ship plans to scratchbuild the lower hull?

Thanks,

Jesse

1:700 scale ships are by and large in waterline only.   Most devotees of the scale seem to prefer it that way.  There was recently an inquiry into the desire for aftermarket 1:700 scales on one of the other message boards which was met by rousing negative or indifferent responses.

You will have to scratchbuilt your own.  Check the Floating Drydock's series of plans.

That should give you what you need
