Heller Chebec in 1/50th. Scale
Posted by Big Jake on Monday, May 1, 2006 3:40 PM

I've started a new webshots album on the building of the Heller Chebec in 1/60th scale.  Right now it's manily parts cleaning to get the mud off before the primary painting.

I will post more pictures and am doing a written "How To" article to go with the picture like the one I did for the Cutty Sark.

Hey Jake.  My Cutty Sark is coming along.  Your web album and tips you gave me are coming in real handy.  If you can, email me those pics of the Chebec.   I've been thinking about picking up the La Reale myself as a project to do after the Soleil Royal.

Grymm,

I made a new webshots album yesterday.  Click on the WWW at the bottom of my post and it will take you to my web shots album, look for the "newest".

I painted the base cost of flat black on yesterday and tonight I painted the Armor Sand and will detail with sandpaper, #11, and a led pencils then wash with a black/grey wash.  Millard (BB member) gave me a great formula for detailing the decks.

Hello: Do you have any figurers on the overall length of the assembled ship?

Lately, I saw a Chebec 1/60 from IMAI on ebay. I have been outbid by one dollar (my highest bid was around $50).

The seller on ebay told me the kit has 80 parts. Personally I think he was in error and the kit must have more parts. He also wrote the overall length is around 60 centimeters (20.4")

I also assume the 1/60 Chebec from Heller stems from the same moldings than the one from IMAI at scale 1/60, right?

Regards
Kater Katze Felix
PS: I saw another IMAI kit of the 1/60 Chebec going for $130 on ebay. I think this price tag was a bit high.

Howdy,

I purchased and built the Heller Chebec in the 70's. Box is long gone but I think it's 1/60 scale. The model, complete, is over three feet long, about 18" wide with the oars out, and close to three feet high. It has way more than 80 parts! Really nice kit with lots of potential for extra detailing.

I stop in the local cafe now and then just to see what I've been up to.

Katz,

The imai is the small 2 ft. one.  I was almost finished mine when Katrina hit and it was lost.  Look in webshots you will see the small version.
