Modelcraft ORIANA
Posted by lolok on Thursday, May 11, 2006 6:08 AM

Hello shipmates.Been a while since I have been here but very busy with the Museum stuff.Anyway trying not to sound to smug, just returned from 2 weeks in Italy,(Rome,Sienna,Florence,Venice,Milan,Assisi)Big Smile [:D]Not a great many model shops and those that I found seem to be big on figures,Andrea, etc.I did find one unusual kit and that was the Modelcraft ORIANA.Not seen it for a while and though it is a bit long in the tooth it has potential.

I thought it would look good in a sea setting.Somewhere tropical with maybe a couple of local Dhows or rowing boats etc around her.Question? Anybody got any clues to where I could find such craft in 1/500th? Or is it a case of scrathbuild again. After six months of such it would be nice to find something out of the box. Also I suppose I am shooting at the moon to think I might find railings in that scale,Yes?

As always I rely on the storehouse of knowledge here on the forum.

      Many thanks in advance.

Jim.  P.S...I wonder what Michelangelo would have done with a top of the range Airbrush and vast range of paints available to us.

There is 1/500 but it is for military ships. I think ocean liners use more than 3-bar rails. Do they not use 5-bars for safety?  See Tom's, GMM, WEM, usual suspects.

Regarding the little boats.....launches and small boats from any 1/480 to 1/535 cheap revell kits. Dhows are a bit difficult to source pre-made?
