Calling Mr. Herne
Posted by richter111 on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 6:44 PM
ah HAH

Got ya to look!

Seriously though, what paint scheme and more importantly what Model Master colors should I use to paint the CV 14 Ticonderoga?

Im thinking along the Jan 45 timeframe, right before the kamakazi attack

Thanks

Im not Jeff ...

According to the Shipcamouflage.com database

http://www.shipcamouflage.com/usn_cv.htm

The Ticonderoga was in Measure 33/10a in 1944 and painted into Measure 21 in April of 1945 -- so January was 33/10a and it is defined as ...

... from the US Naval Historical Center.

The measure calls for 5-L Light Gray, 5-O Ocean Gray, and 5-N Navy Blue.   In enamels these colors are exactly matched in the White Ensign Models Colourcoat line of paints.   In acrylics they are exactly matched in the Testors Acryl II Marine line of paints and very closely matched in the Pollyscale line of paints.

If you like enamels, you're out of luck with Model Master as they don't do naval ship colors.  I have a few USN ships in my queue and I haven't decided whether to do some creative mixing of MM enamels, or use MM acrylics that I can get at my LHS or go mail order.
