I have the book and I know the site. I took a closer look at the book I referred to and according to the reference note, this page is suppose to be of the Big E after her last refit. This page has 3 pics on it. The top pic is clearly pre 43, old bridge is clearly visible and she doesn't have the forward and aft gun tubs yet, the middle pic is post 43 and the bottom pic I assume is post Aug 45.

I know she didn't get back into the fight after the June 45 refit was completed. I was just courious if the disarming was accomplished during the June 45 yard period.

The frame work I referred to midship port side, looks like an upside down U. Any idea why that was added and what's the purpose? Again, just courious.

I suggest getting a copy of U.S.S. Enterprise CV-6  The Most Decorated Ship of World War II by Steve Ewing. It is a pictorial history of the Big E spanning her life from keel laying to (sadly) being scrapped in 1959. I found it to be the best reference source available when I built my 1/700 early 1944 version .My copy is marked as an exhibit version so you can possibly pick one up through the U.S. Naval Air Museum in Pensacola . Good luck on your build.

First of all, no kit is perfect and there is always room for improvement and changes.

I am working on the same Enterprise project. I originally planned to do a pre Oct-43 fit. Then the more I work on it, she is coming out as a post Oct-43 fit. There are a lot of mods than have to be accomplished. I guesstimate I have approximately 350 hours of work so far. A lot of this came from reworking or modifying of parts that I did but wasn't satisfied with how the parts came out. I have several books for reference but I am always finding and coming across pictures with dates and descriptions that don't seem to fit the picture. Some pictures are dated for the same period, but close examination of the pictures reveal minor changes so it's I guess a matter of preference as to how far I want to go with this. All in all though, she is coming along very well.

The hardest parts I had to contend with is building the forward and aft gun tubs that were added sometime after late 1942 I guess. It's hard to find good pictures of these areas, so a lot of it is guess work, especially the under flight deck areas. I am also adding a lot of underdeck frame work. Here to, there are no good pictures. Online references are a great help and I hope I don't offend anyone, but everyone who has built a WW II CV-6, seems to have a different interpretation as to what she actually looked like. So here again, it's a matter of preferance as to how far to go with the mods.

I do have a question that maybe someone knowledgeable about the Big E can answer. There are a couple of pictures in "Warship Pictorial Bk 9", pg 39, the bottom picture. Right about the very center on the port side, there is some kind of frame work that was added and most of the AA guns along the port catwalk are missing. Is this a post Aug 45 mod and what is the frame work for?

Anyway that's my two cents. Hope it helps!

Wow, the more I serch on this subject, the more confused I become.

Here is how I see it. Build her pre refit and after. IF I go with the earlier version, I can use the Hornet by Trumpeter and Nautilus parts. Plus the deck PE etc. Or I can do post refit.

I am not too concerned with which version I build. (sorry to the purists) I just would like an accurate Enterprise.

So the simple question is::  How close is the Trumpeter Hornet to the Enterprise after refit? Close enough for hangrenades and horseshoes? Or still a very obvious difference?

I can look at all the pictures on the net of these 2 ships but am finding it hard to distiguish. Any help would be appreciated.

Side question. While the enterprise could carry many aircraft and more than the kit provides, how many would you show of each aircraft on the deck? I know, personal taste question. Just a Q to get some views for you all.

Thanks for the help.
