You may want to poke around www.steelnavy.com.  They have a lot of kit reviews from a variety of kit makers that may give you some ideas as to your best choices.

Don't know if you have ever come across Modelwarships, but they have reviewed several of the Combrig 1/700 range. The link is http://www.modelwarships.com/reviews/reviews.html

Haven't had the courage to try a resin kit yet, but am very tempted by their HMS Tiger & HMS Dreadnought kits.

1/700 kits...

Given limitations of time, space, and $$$, 1/700 ship kits seem like the way to go? I have become interested in building distinctive ships like the Brit monitor Abercrombie, IJN Fuso, and Richeleiu. Combrig and Hi-Mold seem to be the vendors of choice. Any comments on these two manufacturers? Anyone with experience with these kits in particular? Any other manufacturers I should look at?
