I have just bought my first sailing ship. Can anyone turn me on to tips or web sites that will help with this build?

Jallred,

I'm currently building my first sailing ship and its also the Constitution. I think the best thing for you to do is...do a search on this site. And be prepared to do a whole lot of reading and thinking. You'll see there are several ways to build the Revell 1/96 Constitution so you'll have to make some choices/compromises.

I'm in my sixth month of building mine and find it to be one of my most satisfying modeling experiences. Every time I ponder what course of action to take with my Constitution I'm learning new techniques and PATIENCE.

But of all the sites I've visited this crowd here have been the most knowledgeable and helpful.

  Enjoy!

I really enjoyed building this kit back in 1993. Had painted and tied down all the cannons, and everything in order up to having the masts ready for rigging.... then the housecat jumped up on the "high and safe shelf" I had put it on.  CRASH SMASH CRUMBLE!

Made me sooooo sick.... The cat got off easy by getting thrown out the door.  Never finished it.  I get too temperamental with such things.

Still, it was a great project up to the disaster.

I hope I may be forgiven for repeating the following useful advice, which I've posted before but which somehow seems appropriate in this context.

                                                   HOW TO WASH A CAT

1.  Pour 6-8 ounces of shampoo into toilet.

2.  Insert cat.  Sit on lid.

3.  Flush vigorously 6-8 times, allowing 20-30 seconds between flushes.

4.  RUN.

To some extent that depends on the size of the toilet.  I'd hesitate to use this method on a cat weighing less than five pounds or so, for fear of causing plumbing problems.  At the vet's office yesterday I met a woman who had a 29-pound Maine coon cat; I don't think I'd want to try it with him.  And I've hesitated to use it on my 15-pound Siamese-Himalayan mix, Yehudi; he's got so much fur that I'm afraid it might clog the trap. His smaller, shorter-haired sister, Hepzibah, might be a good subject for experimentation, though I haven't been able to talk her into trying it yet.

Generally, though, I think the system will work pretty well on short-to-medium-hair cats between six and 15 pounds.  I'd suggest a ratio of about two ounces of shampoo per pound of cat.

To steer this thread back on course, I will agree with Leftie. This is the best site for building info. Search the past threads. There is a lot of info on the Constitution. There are other threads dealing with sails, paint,  rigging, and of course some Tom foolery. If you don't see what you need, just ask. Someone will be glad to help.
