Or you can depict the ship in storm ready condition with TG masts struck down.

It is an excellent idea to fit either brass or wood dowel inside the lower masts to provide extra strength.

As I recall the t'gallant masts on the 'Constitution' model are very fine and susceptible to pulling out of alignment when rigging, even with the lightest touch.

The problem with wood dowel is drawing it down fine enough to replace these poles, at the diameters involved this would also be prone to breakage.

Very fine brass tubing can be obtained down to 0.3mm diameter, and I think were I to do 'Constitution' again I would be trialling such as a replacement.

Andrew

The bottom part of the mast come in halves.Find brass rod that fits inside glue it to the inside close the halves sand down your seam and you'll have a strudy mast. You may also want to replace the top gallants with brass or wood. This makes them stronger for rigging.

1/96 Constitution Help (Mast Supports?)
Posted by Andrew Sergi on Tuesday, July 4, 2006 6:02 PM
It's been a while, but my 1/96 Constitution is going into the mast stage with the hull completed.  I heard of people using brass support for the masts and was wondering how exactly to go about it.  I should have some pictures up (The only one thus far is the bow shot as my avatar) of the completed hull it's the best model I have ever made and my first tall ship...And my stomache is kinda sinking to know that with a great hull, it could all be thrown into shambles with a poor rigging/ mast job.  Thanks alot for your help guys feel free to leave any tips or suggestions im all ears.
