HMS Hood 1/350th Trumpeter Kit
Posted by Dick McC2 on Thursday, July 13, 2006 10:19 AM

Has anyone built up Trumpeter's 1/350th HMS Hood? What did everyone think of it? In addition did anyone add the Up Date Set from Trumpeter? Is is worth the money?

Any response would be appreciated....

I've got one started. It's a nice kit... not perfect but entirely buildable and well done for the most part.
I have the update set and it's not bad.. smaller caliber weapons are finer and the prop blades are thinner. The prop hubs are plastic though so you'll still need to paint them.

I will say that the lower hull fits better than the other trumpeter ship kits I have but there is still some filling & sanding to do and it's a Looooooong seam to fill what with the length of this ship!

Mine's about halfway finished and so far ,it's looking good . I decided against the brass barrels set as I couldn't see the need for two sets of main gun barrels , but I did spring for Gold Medals  brass set , and it's a gem , and as usual  Loren has the fit down to a "t". All in all I think it's a great kit and would recommend it . I'm doing mine in the waterline mode , so I can't vouch for any fit problems below the waterline ,but so far ,everything above the line is good to excellent ! Have at it and have a ball !   Laugh [(-D]

Trumpeter have got the shape of the 15" turrets wrong. White Ensign Models are releasing a resin replacement turret set. They used to do their own 1/350th Hood in resin a few years back, so I assume that they are the turrets from this.

Am delaying building my Hood until they are released.
