Greetings,
Last night, after watching the newest "Alamo" movie starring Denis Quaid, I googled a bit about the Texan history and quickly moved to my area of interest: navy. I've found an excellent little book by US Navy naval history division: the "Texas Navy" published in 1968. All the book is scanned in extremely high quality resolution and freely avaliable. here is the link:

The excellent and fluent account tells a lot about the story of "Independence", the first ship of the Lone Star Navy. It was the ex-US Revenue Service cutter "Ingham" and had a most colorful career; serving as a raider and capturing fifteen mexican traders in the "first" Texas Navy until being captured by the mexican navy. She became the "Independencia" but soon after fell into the hands of the separatist Yucatan Republic, thus changing her flag for the third time. Then she was recaptured by loyalist forces but for her the action was not over. During the "Pastry War" with France, she was seized by the french fleet along with all of the Mexican navy and finally ceded to Texas, flying the lone star flag for the final time.
As I was dashed by this story, I googled this time "revenue cutter Ingham" and see hat I've found. She was a Morris-Taney class schooner ! I think those who own the excellent Pyro/Lindberg "Roger B. Taney" revenue schooner kit (including me) will have a very attractive choice for nameplate and flag options.
Best Wishes
Don't surrender the ship !
