Does anyone know if there is a PE set for the Gunze 1/350 Lusitania? I've never built anything like this before. It seems to be a fairly nice kit except for the molded on rails that I would like to take off and replace with PE.

Wow, that should help a lot! Thanks for the information bryan01. Looks like I'm going to be busy on this one.

I have built this ship. Its a great looking kit. GMM also makes a p/e set for it. You may want to check out Bob Ballards book on the ship its history and the wreck site. There are different paint schemes that you will see in the book.  The wreck is in only in 300 feet of water off the coast off Ireland.

Wilbur

I've read on the link above from bryan about the different paint schemes and that the model represents the early version. I haven't seen the Ballard book but I will be on the lookout for it. Actually, I had no idea he made a book about it, thanks for the info. Which paint scheme did you do on your Lusitania and did you use the GMM PE set? I have never used a PE set before and I thought this might be the model to try to do something like that on. Maybe I'm getting in over my head on this one but I've gotta give it a shot. I would like to see some pictures of your Lusitania. Thanks Wilbur.

Hi  ogrejohn, I did the paint scheme with the orange funnels, although the ship had them painted black during the war. I did not use the p/e on this kit as it was built about 12 years ago. I also used normal thread for funnel wire and it looks rather thick and out of scale. I was a novice at liners when I did it. My first use of p/e on a ship was on the Tamiya 350th Enterprise. It will take some practice in how much superglue to use applied with a pin in my case. Unfortunately I don't have a digital camera yet.

The model came out good however.

Ballard dove on the wreck for his book, which can be bought through Amazon.com.......a used copy pretty cheap.
