Another question about 1/200 Yamato - warped hull
Posted by usmc1371 on Wednesday, August 9, 2006 1:25 PM

Ok, here's another question about my 1/200 Yamato.  This actual kit is from 1977.  The hull is one piece from the keel to the deck, bow to stern.  Well it seems that in some places, at the top were the deck goes, the hull has flared out about 1/2 inch.  I want to replace the deck with wood.  The plastic is very stiff and I'm not sure how to pull the sides back in and hold them there securely.  Any help?  Pictures needed?  Did I confuse you?

Thanks,

Jesse

Try immersing the hull in hot (not boiling) water for a few minutes then bending it back in shape.

I've always thought about it but never actually tried it but a blow dryer for the hair might work too.

Uhhh, the hull is 51 inches long Smile [:)].  I might try the hair dryer though. Thanks.

I'm not sure but I think I would try to find some drawings with cross-sectional plans and see if  I could install some bulkheads then hit it with a blow dryer. or maybe get a contour gauge at a hardware store to get a contour shape of the non-warped side then make a complete bulkhead and install it. Your going to need some support underneath the wooden deck anyway so maybe the bulkheads would get two birds with one stone so to speak. just kinda bouncing the idea around in my head Lord knows there's enough empty space Laugh [(-D]
