It was originally an Aurora kit from the early '60s. Aquired by Monogram after they folded and released by Revell after the RM merger.

Yup, 20 years or older, I'd say. I remember trying to build that kit as a wee lad in the early '70s...I could never get that big flight deck on! I don't mean on straight, I mean simply on the hull! BIG fit problems.

I'll have a closer look around the hobby shops here for 1/250 Shinano-usable aircraft. I don't recall having seen any, but ya never know!

Bear in mind that the Revell Enterprise in 1/400 scale has been around for quite some time...I'm going to say at least 20 years, maybe more...since the kit is configured with the beehive.

If you're really trying to do an Enterprise kit up right, the Tamiya kit with a GMM PE set is the way to go...I've seen it done countless times, and it always impresses me.

If you wait a few more months, Trumpeter will be releasing a 1/350 NImitz...so the madness can start all over again...

The antennas are for HF communications. They are always lowered during flight ops and normal underway steaming, raised when inport or when conducting alongside replenishment.

I was talking about the Enterprise. It looks to me like just a scaled up version of one of their older smaller scale kits. I can't see anything that has been improved that should be when going to a larger scale. Yuk!

For which kit, the Enterprise or Doyusha Shinano?

There's not much in the way of aftermarket for either kit... you can get generic 1/400 rails from Tom's Modelworks, and I used 1/250 PE rails from Wilhelmshaven card models on my Shinano.

For the Shinano aircraft, you can get away with using 1/285 white metal wargaming aircraft. Most are oversized anyway, so it's not that bad, and far less work than scratching and casting copies.

Not to hurt anyone's feeling, but I have this kit as well. I got it as a gift and I've looked it over. From what I can see, I'm not that impressed. Not much detail. Is there any help for this kit at all? Or am I just crazy? Are there any PE and/or aftermarket stuff out there for it?

They are great, but I would like to know if I can get 1/250 aircraft for the Dyushu Shinano!

Hello, I am building the Monogram 1/400 Enterprise and I would like to know what the poles or rails are that stick out of the side of the ship and go back about half way down the side, they can be raised or lowered.
Thank youBig Smile [:D]
