Because the MHM Tirpitz is a pirated copy of the Tamiya offering with some -- ahem;  'liberties taken' with the quality and crispness of the details, the Eduard PE application should be fine.

As a ship PE noob, remember that you should resist the urge to attempt to fit an entire side's railing run in one piece just because that is the way it is etched on the fret.  You should always attempt to work in 2-3 inch (5-8 cm) sections.  Measure between logical endpoints (bulkheads, gun tubs, etc.).  Tack the railing run in place with a few pin-point drops of white glue then go back and cement firmly with CA.   You may have to cut or file other pieces to adjust the fit.

PE Question
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, August 23, 2006 7:33 PM

I am a bit of a beginner to scale ship modeling and have a question. I recently purchased a Mini Hobby 305 Tirpitz (for a good price...if I could do it again I would by a Tamiya due to the subsequent research I've done)....

Anyway, I was looking for Photo Etched details to add, but I cant seem to find any for this make (most are for the Tamiya boat). Would I have success in applying a Tamiya PE set of details to this Mini Hobby model, or am I setting myself up for failure?

It's strange to be a beginner at something while almost 38, but that's what makes life an ongoing learning process, I guess.

Thanks in advance.
