Soleil Royale question

I've got nothing really "picture worthy" at the moment.  I'm going to have some shots of the cannons before they go in.  I'm only going to have cannons on one side of the ship.  That way I can display it with full broadside, or closed up.  It also saves time on the build without having to assemble/paint all the guns.

I just started on the decks, laying down the underside coats.  My classes started yesterday and I've already got about 5 chapters to read for Wednesday along with a paper to do.  But, only 3 semesters to go and I can't wait...my degree has been over 20 years in the making.

Once I get the initial deck work done, I'll take some shots.  I'm also going to lay down the rest of the royal blue on the stern castle pieces so I can start on all the guilding, which will take quite a while to do...

   The best four words of your statement "I'm having  a blast".Thats what modelings all about.All kits have some kind of problem fit,scale,or etc.I know with Heller the translation of the instructions gets alittle fuzzy.Can't wait to see pictures.

After looking a little more in the instructions I did find it.  I'm just going to zerox that page so it's easier to reference.  Heller could've done a lot better with the instructions, or just asked Revell to write them...

I take it that upper side is the surface and bottom is the underside....

Now, for the red that is used, I'm not using a bright red, since the elements that were used for making colors for paint were different back then, leading to a more subdued red.  The closest color I could find in my area is called Indian Red.  It works well enough.  It's a flat, very dull red.  To me a brighter red would just look wrong scale-wise...

I checked my instructions. Parts 3, 4, 5 & 6 (the parts which form the mentioned decks) should be painted as follows:

Upper side: havane (tan) mix of ½ 94 & ½ 103

Bottom: bois moyen (middle brown) mix of ⅔ 98 & ⅓ 94

These are the same colors as the other decks by the way.
