Posted by Big Jake on Tuesday, August 29, 2006 12:08 PM

Just wanted to say THANKS to all of those members who have said kind words and sent “care” packages to our family.  Today is the 1 year anniversary of Katrina, although the City of New Orleans is doing all sorts of stuff for it. The Parish of St. Bernard ,my old home, and currently where I still work, which was hits the hardest did not make it into the national spotlight that much. (Sorta O.K. with me) Let me give a few short facts incase someone might ask you about us. The link to the video was shot from the boat we used to rescue folks off roofs and outta homes. Reporter Heath Allen lives just a few blocks from me  and we tok him with us as we pulled folks out.

Keep pluggin' along.  It takes time. I'm from SC and was stationed at home in Charleston for HUGO and transfered here to Pensacola 6 months before IVAN. Also had 4 hurricanes while at Camp Lejeune. What am I, a damn hurricane magnet?

The only bad one I had to ride out ashore was Carol, in '54. Went swimming in the bay while the eye was over us. Dolly, right behind, basicly missed us, and Edna didn't cause many problems. There was one in '64 that bounced DD-770 around a bit, for two weeks. If Carol had beat on us for just a little bit longer, the cottage would have gone into the bay with all of us on board.

The clean up after...........I keep trying to forget that. Faith, for strength to endure. Luck, for sucess in rebuilding. Prayers for all on the coast who are recovering from the devastation.   Pete

Lead me not into temptation ..................I can find it myself

It was certainly my pleasure to help you out way back when by contributing to a care package.  I still feel guilty about bugging you about a couple model kits right after the storm, the young brain didnt put 2 and 2 together until a few days later.  Boy am I a moron. Ashamed [*^_^*]

It is still so hard to comprehend such complete and utter devastation without seeing it firsthand.  Thanks for the link, it was certainly informative.

Good luck to you, your family and your friends!
