1/350 Type XXI

Thanks Micheal.  I took it down to Ft Worth Saturday and entered it at the SuperCon contest.  I took 3rd(and yes, there were more than three in that category).  I've been to a lot of contests in the last five years, but this is the first time that I ever entered anything.  Actually, I have entered in the semi-annual Hobbytown contests, but never a big contest.

This was also the first contest for my brother-in-law Brad.  He has been building for a while, but until the last couple of years, he wasn't aware of contests, Finescale Modeler, etc.  I have definately corrupted him.  He has built up a small but respectable 'stash', which my sister still hasn't forgiven me for yet.

Anyway, enough rambling, I've got stuff on the bench to build.

Very nice, congratulations! I've built some 1/400 scale subs 10 years ago, and I still love them now.  1-400/1-350 is a good scale for submarines, you can build several ones, compare the size, etc....Unfortunately, there are not so many models, and some are in 1-350, others in 1-400, but your mission is acomplished, it makes me feel like building one.

Thanks Julian.  I figured out how to take sharp close ups with my digital camera. 

I'm giving credit to the oil wash.  It really made the panel lines pop out.  Another effect it did was to streak some when I wiped it with a q-tip dipped in mineral spirits.  Originally, I only had two tubes of oil paint, so of course, I went out and bought an oil paint set.  It was a 24 tube set I think.

I'm contemplating doing a Fletcher class next, after I get the Panzer IV D finished, and a couple more in 'Holding Pattern'.  I picked up the Trumpeter USS The Sullivans, and am thinking about getting some PE for it.
