I know how that is Fred. I have three more USS Mission Capistrano kits to build as well. Those are the military tanker version of the Glasgow. I plan on doing all four too.

Looking forward to seeing your pics of your progress!

Thank you Michel. These are all the Trumpeter 1/700 scale model kits of Russia's four Kirov-class warships. That is the basic model for these.

Epinniger, thank you also for your compliments as well. I got these four from Trumpeter instead of Dragon because Trumpeter offered the choice of full hull or waterline. I wanted these to be built full-hulled and I'm glad I did it; they look awesome with a full hull.

These were built OOB (out of box). I didn't add any aftermarket P/E because I couldn't afford it for all four ships, and there were enough parts already to put on! I also didn't scratchbuild anything on them either since there really didn't seem to be any reason to.

Thanks again for the great compliments. I also love to build 1/600 scale ships as well. If I'd had my choice, these would all have been built in 1/600, but they were only offered in 1/700.

Great work on your Kievs - very neat paint work.

These are very impressively detailed kits, and full-hull too - from the photos, I definitely wouldn't have known they were 1/700. Were they built "out of the box" or did you add any AM or scratchbuilt details?
They certainly put my efforts in 1/600 scale to shame.

Very nicely done.  I like the photo shot from above, it gives a natural camo look of it blending into it background?  Are the decks on those cruisers wood decks?  Forgive my ignorance but what era are these, modern day or WWII?  Sorry not up on my Soviet/Russian ships.  They look modern day, correct?

Snoopy, the decks are steel. they are only painted in that rust-red color by the Soviets/Russians. And yes, they are modern ships. The first, (Kirov) was launched in the late seventies while the lasty one (Piotr Vehliky) was launched in 1991.

Slinky lookin' buggers, aren't they? I hear only one of them is still on active service, the remainder in mothballs or parted out.

Actually, several sources I have say that two are in active service while the third is in reserve. The fourth is currently being used as a parts ship, but the Russian government is reportedly trying to find a way to bring her back up to operational status. I do like the look of these though, and I'm glad I finally got all four built.

Thanks again for all the great comments!

One 'Holy Grail' Achieved! Four Kirovs completed!
Posted by Duke Maddog on Monday, September 4, 2006 10:23 PM
With all my thanks to Matthew Ward and his crew at Ward's Works, I have finally achieved one of my 'Holy Grails'!

Sometime ago, Matt sent me a model of the Kirov Russian battlecruiser, thus completing my set of four Russian Kirov-class battlecruisers. After some months of construction, I have finally finished building this last ship of the class, the name-ship Kirov. Here she is:

And now, here are all four of them sailing in formation. All of these are all the Trumpeter 1/700 scale ships. From Left to Right they are:

Kirov, Frunze, Kalininn, and Piotr Vehliky

Ah, the joy of finishing a quest!
