Olive Drab LCM 3?
Posted by barrovian on Wednesday, September 13, 2006 2:58 PM
Just received the Italeri 1/35 LCM 3, searching on the net revealed a personal account of the U.S. LCM 3's used during the Rhine crossing being sprayed olive drab by the army and the navy crews made to wear army uniforms (they were not happy about this). Can anyone confirm this and if possible any links to colour pictures. Thanks in advance.

Yes, LCMs used in the crossing of the Rhine River (March 1945) were painted Olive Drab. The LCMs were transported to the Rhine on trailers behind M26 Dragon Wagons.  You can see the results of a number of different modelers in building a Dragon Wagon/LCM-3 combination by searching the net using those key words.

As I recall, one of the the old Time/Life series of books on World War II had a few paragraphs and pictures on the subject.
