Lower hull colour for S-100 Schnellboot?
Posted by EPinniger on Thursday, September 21, 2006 10:54 AM
The instructions for the Revell kit specify dark blackish-grey, but I have also seen photos of models with the lower hulls painted in anti-fouling red (hull red) with a black boot stripe.
Were both these colours used at various times, or is one or the other inaccurate?

EPinniger,

Revell is "sort of" correct.  It was a blackish color.  It's available from WEM.  In their Colourcoats for the Kriegsmarine ... I forgot its proper name - but John Synder knows it, ask him.  Or, go to my website (www.ptboatworld.com) and read the build-up article on my S-100.  Or, go to www.prinzeugen.com.

Many thanks for the information.
I usually use Tamiya "NATO Black" to represent black or blackish paint on ships, it's a very dark grey (almost black) with a slight bluish/greenish tint. This would probably be a good paint to use considering the real paint's name was "Dunkelblaugrau" (dark blue-grey)

www.prinzeugen.com appears to be down at the minute, I was originally intending to check the Schnellboot section of this website to see if I could find the answer to my question before posting here!
