It all depends on what year your model was molded. Years closer to today will usually have a lot of flash, due to the age of the molds. Example; I have bought two 1:96 Revell Constitutions, which sit in my workroom as I write this. One is from 1976, the other from 1971. Both kits are almost completely free of flash. But, the 76 kit does have more flash when you hold the sprues side by side.
My suggestion. Hit Ebay and look for kits that were molded before 1974. You will be very happy with your purchase. The parts will be crisp and relatively free of flash. But, be careful of any decal sheets. Decals do not age very well. I have had to spray a coat of decal clearcoat on the sheets before using them, else they break up really bad.
Good luck with your build...
