The 2006 PT boat GB - 1/72 Revell Vosper MTB
Posted by Mavrik on Monday, September 25, 2006 7:56 AM

This is my build of the Revell 1/72 British Vosper MTB for the 2006 Patrol Torpedo Boat group build.

A review of the kit can be found on the PTBoatWorld site: http://www.ptboatworld.com/RevellVosperMTB.htm

I have decided to do not try to fix the hull lines and simply build the kit with some improvements in details.Unfortunately, the build is progressing VERY slowly. :(

'Hand-rails' were added on the dechouse . The horn (I hope, it was a horn :) ) was replaced with a new one.

Some details were added on the torpedo tubes, all holes in the bases were cleaned. The tubes are still in work.

Hand-rails and the door-handle were replaced in the cabin.

I did not find any photos of American-built Vospers' cabin. I am going to use the photo of MTB-73 from the Vospers In Action as a refernce.

And one overall shot...

Lookin' good there Mavrik! I have the Al Ross & John Lambert's book ""Allied Coastal Forces" vol.2
If you'd like, I can check it out for ya. Which MTB are you doing up? (MTB-73?)

Thank you, it would be great. The kit depicts 1940 Vosper built in USA under a license. I found only a photo of MTB-73 (1940 model) in the InAction book. Thus, I decided to use it as a basis.

It would be great to find a photo of cabin of Vosper actually built in USA.

Good work with the detailing! I'm definitely looking forward to seeing this build progress.

Inaccurate as it is, this is the kit which got me interested in ship modelling, and "large scale" models in particular (anything from 1/72 to 1/200). I built it about a year and a half ago, almost completely "out of the box". Maybe one day I'll build another and attempt to detail/accurise it, but I'll probably build the Airfix Vosper first.

Thank you. This drawing shows exactly the same arrangement, I am going to use as a base.

Thank you, Ed. I received the email.

Currently, I am trying to rebuild torpedo loading cradles. Several pictures of an unfinished sample (need to add two smaller vertical ribs in the middle) are below.

How is your PT?

It's coming along slowly. I'm almost done sanding & filling the deck. Then will prime it & see how it looks.

Hi,

Some progess pictures are below.

1. I drilled lightening holes in the plate supports on boat's stern.

2. Made thinner sides of air intakes.

3. Drilled the exhausts, cut out platforms for smoke generators (they will be replaced), tried to decrease V of the hull (slightly sanded it off, no surgery), moved positioning hole of the center rudder up (to line up all the ruddres).

4. Added some details on the gun tubs.

5. Sanded off the torpedo loading cradles and restored the deck (I will install my cradles after the deck is glued to the hull), sanded off central sections of DC racks and added some details on them, drilled air intakes holes to add some depth, rebuilt the hatch (replaced the inclined cover with a horizontal one).

Hi all,

Unfortunately, I had almost no time for my build during the last two months. Some progress pictures are below.

1. Completed torpedo reloading cradles:

2. Stern in progress:

3. Drilled lightening holes in the wind deflector supports, added some details to to the cabin:

Very nice, Marvic!! Bow [bow] I have an old, half-completed 1/144 Hawk kit (someone gave it to me) and your work inspires me to get it out & fix it up! Approve [^]
