Revell 1/96 Cutty Sark revisited..................
Posted by Grem56 on Friday, October 27, 2006 11:44 AM

Still trying to get hold of a 1/96 scale Cutty Sark I e-mailed Revell Germany asking if there were plans to re-release this model. I received the following (probably standard) answer:

thank you very much for your e-mail and your interest in our products. Your product proposals and comments are collected and then checked for their marketability. Due to the large number of comments and letters we receive, it is not possible to include all the products proposed. The selection of new models is based on a variety of criteria, including of course market analyses. We do our best to offer a comprehensive range covering various themes. Nevertheless we thank you very much for your suggestions and we will include them into our proposal list for the coming years.

Regards,

S. Haller

I was rather surprised that the December issue of FSM mentions a "Hot Holiday Release" of the 1/96 Cutty Sark on page 73.

Can anyone shed some light on this subject ? Is a re-release imminent ?

cheers,

Julian

I have no idea what Revell's plans for this kit may be.  It's a real classic - the sort of kit that always ought to be available.  (On the other hand, I sure hope Revell doesn't do to it what it did to its old Alabama kit:  warped parts, screwed-up moldings, and a miserable instruction sheet featuring photos of a finished model built by an orangatan who couldn't figure out where the sails were supposed to go.)

Maybe it's worth noting that the Imai 1/125 Cutty Sark is currently being sold under the Aoshima label.  In some respects it's a better kit than the Revell one.  (Virtually all the old Imai sailing ship kits are excellent.  We really lost something when that company went out of business.)  Unfortunately the prices for the Aoshima version are pretty extravagant (at least here in the U.S.), but it's a fine kit.

Youth, talent, hard work, and enthusiasm are no match for old age and treachery.

I was waiting for that but saw one on ebay 2 days ago and since there were no bids I wrote the guy and he sold it to me for $40 bucks (including priority mail) new in box.  I'm pretty sure its the last american molding of the kit. I should have it  next week.

You can find it on ebay without too much trouble. Many older and I would presume better molded versions of the kit.

Back to work on my  Alabama  kit that jtilley mentions, soon. More mold line cleaning to drive me mad.

very messy molding. Hopefully If the Cutty Sark is re-issued it will be a cleaner mold  run, and my kit in transit  will be cleaner than my Alabama.
