Thats why on my second letter to HOBBYLINC I gave specifics on who I was, my order number and what the item was that I ordered and "IF" I was to get it at that price even if it turns out to be 30.00 to 40.00 dollars more and they 'again' told me that I will get it at that cost no matter what!

I say GO FOR IT! in a BIG WAY!Wink [;)]

It's almost like the pricing got crossed with the 1/125 U-99? that also comes from RG. The $78 certainly appears more realistic.

Yeah the pricing on this is strange. Hobbylinc has it for pre-order for $16.69. And a few people have said they got confirmation that that's what the price will be. On another place they have it for pre-order for $78.00. Gadzooks! LOL!

It should probably be somewhere in the middle.

Well, I think Hobbylinc is going to take a bath on the kit, or renege and make a lot of people really ticked off.

Only time will tell.

It says more about the U-BOOTs history.....not much about the kit itself other than that the "It's one most anticapated kits of the year" Its been translated twice over at Hobbytalk.

It's going to be AWESOME!Big Smile [:D]

UPDATE!

I just recieved this from Revell today!....My response today is first:

Mrs Schulze!

OOPS! sorry about that!

Dear Mr. Enlow,

it should be released end of November this year. So I think it should be available in US beginning of 2004.

guten tag! Herr Schulze, ( my goof! He is a She! )

I have seen the 'test shots' of the Revell's 1/72 VII-C U-BOOT....and it looks wunderbar!

QUESTION: Is the November 2003 release still in affect?

There are many here in the U.S. that are very excited about this kit! Revell of Deutschland is what Model kits should be like!

Good morning all,

I contacted Revell of Germany yesterday afternoon after reading through this thread and requested the English translation of the infopage that James posted yesterday. There may be some inaccuracies with the fish, but I think with a little time and effort it is going to make quite a showpiece on my shelf. Link follows:

Good point!....The guns would be covered.

That price of 22.00 is without a doupt VERY WRONG! it's about 50.00 Euro ( so far ) and that means the U.S. price will be around 65.00 to 80.00 for sure!

I highly recomend the HOBBYLINC's pre-order sale of 16.99....and do it now before they get wind of what the kit will actually cost! .......I know some who are ordering several as we speak ...he he!

So far its slated for Nov!....just in time for XMAS!Big Smile [:D]

RODC:
I built the Snowberry kit and also wasn't impressed with a lot of the details. If the after-market is a bit out of your reach you can always cover the guns with simulated canvas bags. I know this takes away from the modeller's art but it would be correct as the guns were not uncovered except at action stations or training.
Good luck!

Thanks for the great info. It's great to have a knowledgable person around. Will probably have lots of questions once the kit comes out. LOL!

Actually,

I can shed some light on a few things...

The new Revell AG kit looks nice, a VIIC Turm II boat. I did notice in the Revell test shots that she's covered with rivets...which is simply WRONG!! Type VII boats were welded... I imagine it will be an excellent starting point for a serious Type VII build, but with a suggested retail of $21 US we can't expect the likes of the Amati kit. Comparing it to Tamiya armor kits I think will disappoint alot of folks.

It'll be relatively simple to convert the VIIC Turm II into a Turm IV (Wintergarten) with some minor work.

The Amati Type VIIB is on;y 2.1 scale feet shorter than the VIIC, so converting it into a VIIC is not a big deal. There are some subtle changes to the hull area under the saddle tanks, but it's hardly noticeable.

With regards to the 20mm Oerlikons, it is the Airfix Rescue Launch that contains the good guns. Model-Expo has this very kit on sale for $4.95 this month in their clearance flyer I just rec'd in the mail.

With regards to photoetced details, aside from creating a photoetched deck, there's not alot of parts on that boat that can be effectively replace with photoetch. Railings on U-boats are welded pipes, and PE rails will not cut it in that large a scale. I can understand replacing the periscope housing lookout platforms, adding hatch hinges and wheels, and a few other detail parts, but that's about it.

I spent 400+ hours converting the Amati kit into a Type VIIC Turm IV. You can find it in the Feature Articles section of www.modelwarships.com

I actually still have the Armati U-boat kit in the same scale, though it's a VIIb. I never built it because I had no desire to carve all those holes out of the hull! Tongue [:P] I wonder how many of the pieces from that kit will work on this one ....

Then again, maybe none are necessary. I'm sure Revell AG is going to pull out all the stops to make this a showpiece model like Tamiya's big tanks or the new super Zero kit.

Very good news!

From the pictures it looks like it will be a great kit. It also looks to be an early VIIC (1941) as the later subs didnt have the netcutters on them/

Cut the following from a Snowberry review:
-------------------------------------------------
On the bridge wings are two, single 20mm Oerlikon cannons, or rather what I assume are supposed to be Oerlikons. I saw no easy way to improve these, therefore they are best discarded and spares robbed from the Airfix Air-Sea Rescue Launch substituted in their place.
-------------------------------------------------
I am pretty sure they are referring to Aitfix Kit# 5281.

There were other references to how bad the 20mms are but I can't find them at the moment.

I believe it is the 1/72nd scale Airfix Kit# 5281 RAF Rescue Launch.

Maybe someone else here knows for sure.

RODC, yeah it would be large. But a lot of fun. LOL!

Oh, the aftermarket for the Snowberry is crazy. I believe you can replace everything except the hull. LOL! Cost a fortune though.

And I read somewhere (have to find it again) that for cheap you can replace the20mm guns (which are supposedly terrible) with the ones from an Airfix kit which supposedly has the best 20mm guns in any kit made.

I'll find out whick Airfix kit it is and post the info.

Wow James......that would be some diorama.....better have lots of space. I just purchased the Snowberry about a month ago and am still building courage to tackle it......lots of parts without even considering any aftermarket stuff. If you do build a diorama, make sure you post the pics.

Happy sailing.....RODC

Hope so. But I guess we should see how it looks in the box first. Would be nice if they had a few figures included too.

ALL I CAN SAY IS!!

Rats! I gotta go change my panties!......COOL PICS!Big Smile [:D]

HEY!

HOBBYLINC is still offereing this kit at a low pre-sale price of 16.99! ...SO!....get a few why you still can! I have noticed a few other U.S. on line mail order outfits offering this kit at around 22.00 U.S. as well but most say ( in tiny words at the bottom ) that the price may change before shipment.....HOBBYLINC has told me TWICE that my price WILL NOT CHANGE!

Revell of Germany sent me a letter stating that the EURO price will be about 50.00....even if this were to be a U.S. Revell release it would still be round 30.00 or more.

Thanks! That's O.K. We trust you.

Great stuff. Really looking forward to this kit. Great diorama possibilities with a 1/72 Revell Snowberry kit.
