Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, November 22, 2006 12:03 PM
Ok guys Im kinda new to building ships, I usually buid Aircraft hince the avatar! Im building Tamyias 1/350 scale USS BB-62 New Jersey and I was hoping some of you guys have any photos of it or know of a good website that has photos of her. Im going to build it in the scheme of the Vietnam era 1980's. and I saw it has a Wooden deck. what colors are good for it and what technique is used for getting the real  look of that type of wood, because I know on the deck the wood is not all one purdy color they change over time. any help is thankful.

rusty white has an excellent cd on the new jersey, check out his website flagship models.com you can get it there thru another excellent website steelnavy.com. On his cd he converts a purposed version of the new jersey as an heavy assualt ship.  He has also covered in past issues of fine scale modeler how to paint the wood decks of the new jersey. check the back issues. I hope this helps.

A site that has many photos can be found here... http://www.colosseumbuilders.com/john/nj/index.htm

There used to be a page detailing the corrections needed on the Tamiya kit but it was removed some time ago.

See the NewJersey page at NAVSOURCE

http://www.navsource.org/archives/01/62a.htm

From there, also go up and access the rest of the IOWA-class ships.

Back in 1983 I had the pleasure of watching the New Jersey firing off her main batteries & Tomahawk Missiles. I was on San Nicolas Island at the time. It was an impressive sight to behold & seeing some of these pics brings back those fond memories. I wish I still had the pics that were given to me which were taken from the Island!!
