Replanking in wood is a serious undertaking. Most guys go out and buy lots of thin strips of bass wood and cut them into scale pieces. The next thing is to cut all the fine detail parts away and come back later and sratch build them. This is a very labor intense project not for the faint of heart. If you are a great scratch builder, this may be a wonderful project.
Now on the otherhand, depends on type of ship. If it is an aircraft carrier nice and flat deck, I assemble mine before adding it to the hull. I use tube glue and put it between the joints so it will fill in any gaps. I push the pieces together as tight as i can, have them lay upside down on a flat surface and then pile about 25 pounds of books on top. I usually leave this set for a couple of days. On one of those battleagons, well......it's Mr surfacer 500 and maybe adding a fixture or something if I can to hide the joining area
