Need plans for 16"/50 Mk7 naval gun!
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, December 7, 2006 10:14 PM

Doing a Sci-fi based scratchbuild project here, but I need plans and dimensions for the old 16"/50 Mk 7 naval gun as used on the USS Iowa and similar battleships.

Any help will be very appreciated. I'm a bit stir crazy...been out of work for 20 days due to a on job injury, and painting the inside of the house even seems like fun now...Banged Head [banghead]

"Bun-Bun"? *innocent look* Me? What's a SheVa? *LOL* Yup, that's it. I'm still undecided on scale for it though...even in 1/72, the barrel alone would be 11" long.  1/35 would be double that at 22". Then there's those 30' diameter road wheels...

But it's fun to daydream...and maybe to build on those dreams.

Interesting project - I've always wanted to build one of the tanks operated by the Slammers in the Drake series - but no plans and every cover drawing is different.

That's another subject I'd love to build, but you're right...no plans. These projects are just something you have to use your imagination on. Nice thing about building a SheVa is that you do have some baseline items to start from, like the 16"/50 naval gun and the road wheel being 30' in diameter.  Some idea of size can also be drawn from Ringo choosing to use a turretless M1A1 Abrams as an 'escape pod', slung underneath the SheVa.
