  Best to get a book on how ships are rigged, and go from there.  I rig ships until I am satisfied with the running and standing lines, and before it gets so crowded that it becomes a nightmare.

what is the purpose of ALL the ships rigging?

 look at 2 ships side by side of "similiar "size and type, one has rigging and the other has enough rigging for half a fleet
