"Chesapeake Bay Squadron" Q
Posted by jwintjes on Saturday, January 27, 2007 10:18 AM

Apologies if that has been brought up already, but my search didn't turn up really useful material.

I'm wondering about the ships that together with the Virginia were under Buchanan's command, particularly about the Raleigh and the Beaufort - I have never seen any good pictures of these; are there any out there?

Directly related to this, while I know one or two depictions of the Patrick Henry, I'm under the impression that there should be more material on her, yet I was so far unable to find it.

The background to my questions is my continuing attempt at building some of the ships that took part at Hampton Roads, based around Lindberg's 1/220ish renditions of the Monitor and the Virginia, which, while plain, are nevertheless suprisingly good. Actually, one could probably have good results fairly quickly, unless one begins such an insanely endeavour as trying to give the Virginia at least a partial interior, but that is another story...

Hello Jorit,

Angus Konstam's book "Hampton Roads 1862" from Osprey publishing campaign series contains excellent pictures and photographs of Raleigh, Beaufort and the tug Teaser.

Don't surrender the ship !
