My sympathies. His barrels and other brass items were little works of art, in and of themselves.

I picked up the Jan/Feb 07 Ships in Scale and was saddened to read of the passing of Steve Nuttall. I checked his website at modelbarrels.com and found that he had suddenly died in August. This may be old news to many, but my participation on the forums over the past six months (and my modeling opportunities) have been limited by family issues. Searches for "Nuttall" on the forums has yielded little information.

I exchanged e-mails with Steve on a project earlier in the year and was extremely impressed with his responses to my enquiries and looked forward to working with him. I'm very depressed that he is no longer with us.

Pat Matthew's piece in Ships in Scale is an excellent tribute. He gives a brief synopsis of Steve's activites and refers to his work as "tiny gems", which "set new standards for accuracy" and was "appreciated around the world".

Does anyone have more information on Steve and his background?

my understanding was that Steve passed away right before he was to be married...

At that time, they were trying to see who would want his equipment.  I have his scopes and barrels for the Revell Type VII; he used to post on the subcommittee website as well.  He and his fine work will be missed.

I don't know who he is but the passing of a fellow modeler is always bad news.
