CVN68 IN 1/500 OR 1/350 OR 1/700

GREETINGS:  I HAVE BEEN DOING SOME RESEARCH ON MY DOWNTIME HERE IN IRAQ.  I AM MAKING A LIST OF PROJECTS TO DO UPON MY RETURN TO THE STATES. ON THE TOP OF MY LIST IS BUILDING A NITMIZ CLASS CARRIER.  TRUMPTER HAS ALL THREE SCALES.  I KNOW 1/350 IS LARGE OVER 3FEET AND THE 1/700 IS A BETTER SIZE.  MY QUESTION WHAT ABOUT THE 1/500 WHICH IS COMMING OUT AGAIN.  MY QUESTION IS WHICH SCALE HAS THE MOST OPTIONS SUCH AS EXTRA A/C AND P.E. FOR THE MONEY. I  HAVE AN 1/600  CVN-65 WHICH IS A SMALLER VERSION OF  THE TAMYIA'S KIT.  I AM LOOKING FOR MODERN CARRIER TO GO WITH.  ANY HELP OR SUGGESTION WILL BE MOST WELCOMED.

My personal opinion is, for sheer variety and because I live in a small apartment, 1/700 is the way to go for aircraft carriers, especially the modern ones. You get Gold Medal Models exquisite photoetch sets, for both the ship and the airwing; the new Trumpeter aircraft are little works of art in themselves (although the decals aren't great); and you can find a ready made display case that will fit the finished masterpiece. White Ensign Models also has some great aircraft in 1/700.

I am in total agreement with on the size issue, but My skills are not that great yet, I am rusty and work better with something sightly larger.  I have several other projects/ ideas which include the hybird iowa done by rusty white, and essex class carrier in 1/350 and one in 1/500 as vietnam version.  That is one benfit of being deployed in Iraq, you have time to think and make list, to keep your mind focus on other issues and as an escape.  Thanks again.
