To make you feel a little bit better....my collection consists mostly of planes and armor but I have a 1/72 VIIC/47 in work on the table with another VIIC and the new Gato in the wings, and just today I bought the Tamiya 1/350 Bismark Captain [4:-)]

This definitely seems to be the case at most model shows I've visited. At the Milton Keynes show last week there were only a handful of club stands with ships of any kind (although one of these was a very impressive display of 1/1200 scratchbuilt Royal Navy ships, from the 19th century to WW2)

In the world of plastic modeling, IPMS has one very valuable feature. The models display a level of fit, and finish, that are, for the most part unequaled. Studying these models can show just how well built a plastic model can be. As for subject matter? "The proud, the few, the ship modelers".

Don't get depressed going to those sites just stick with Modelwarships.com and SteelNavy.com. There are other sites in Europe that also specialize in ships try this one too: www.modellmarine.de/phpwebsite/. After you go there you will begin to find other ship sites too. WS

The numbers you quote are about right.

Modeling interest in ships runs just about 5 to 10 percent of the total modeling market.   Just to make you feel better - real space and science fiction has a smaller draw than ships.

There is a reason why IPMS is called the International Plane Modeling Society
