I didn't build this thing myself, but as far as I know late models from Trumpeter are good ones which fit together very well. For this ship, Trumpeter does not provide PE rails like its 1:200 Sovremenny.
So I'd suggest you buy aftermarket PE rails from some manufacturers (I used local made ones), it sure makes the ship look better.

The ship looks great! Thumbs Up [tup]  Now I want one of those Sovremenny's to add to my growing ship stash.

Many thanks for your kind words, Scott! Do you limit your ship stash to 1/350 only? If not, I'd suggest Sovremenny 1:200 (also from Trumpeter) because it comes with PE rails & masts at a little bit higher price. So far I've seen no other ship provides as much value for money as this one. I love it so much that I have both types (956 and 956E) built and still another one in box.

I just recently got back into building ship kits again. I had a 1/200 Shinano Carrier a few years back but sold it off when I was trying to reduce my rising stash of kits, silly me wish I had it still. My largest scale ship is the Accurate Armor 1/35th VIIC U-boat with the Quay set, that's my retirement project whenever that comes around?? I like the 1/350 scale ships and just bought all the WEM PE sets for the Bismark which I will start on before too long. I have 2 of the Revell's 1/72 U-boats and one, the VIIC/41 is nearly ready for painting now, that's if I can ever pull myself away from the forum here to work on it. I got the interior sets for the other VIIC and will do a cutaway of that one. I also have the Gato and I figure that interior sets should be hitting the market shortly. At the current rate that I'm completing a kit, I figure I should be around 140 yrs old before I complete the last model I have. If I were to buy the Sovremenny, make that 142 yrs old!

How I envy your stash! I don't have the Shinano 1/200 or 1/35 U-Boat (have only 1/32 tower), or the VIIC/41 or the Gato yet and I don't think I have space for enormous kit like that. I think the smallest scale for ships you'd go for is 1/350, right?. If so, same here...

I recently built the 1/350 Sovremenny which I received as an Xmas gift from the wifey. It is a great kit, with good fit and great detail. I used Gold Medal models' PE set, which fit like a glove. The biggest challenge is mixing your deck color- mine was a combination of rust, orange and some grey. Here's a link to my build:

Sorry I couldn't get it to be a working link for some reason, just cut and paste.
