Just wanted an Idea of how those of you who have made a Victory Kit went about painting the most difficult part, the stern details??

O.K. here is what to do.
The following detail painting tips will cover the stern and rear galleries as well.

1. Paint entire stern plate and stern galleries with two coats of Floquil Reefer Yellow (or) what ever color yellow you used on the sides of the ship. Let dry between coats and after it is dry 24 hrs.

2. Coat the pieces with 2 coats of gloss let dry another 24 hours.

3. Using a 000 or smaller brush paint the railing that decorates the parts and the window frame as well as the figures and trim with FLOQUIL "STEAM POWER BLACK" WATER BASE PAINT !!!! You need to use water base only or the black will attack the yellow. If you get black on the yellow you can lightly scrape if off with out damaging the yellow under the glosscoat. The painting is more capillary action than painting as the water base paint flows on the parts nicely.

Once sat. coat everything with a coat or two of flat finish. TADAAA nothing two it except 2 weeks of painting!

Thanks Jake, That is more or less the way I went for it. I used Tamiya black for between the rails and tried a ROTRING design pen for other details. The pen has changeable nibs and the ink has good coverage. Picked up the Constitution yesterday for about 73 dollars and a Stanley spokeshave for the Amati mast,so not a bad day. I think the Constitution first.Do you know any good websites for her? and thanks again. Your getting to be the agony aunt of the ship forum!

Do not forget the insides of the bulwarks are med. green not white. You can see that in the ohotos of the ship

Hello all!

Bringing this topic up to help answer the painting question about the Heller Victory stern. There may be other posts in the archive. Enjoy!
