Revell Kearsarge/Alabama After-Market Guns and Rigging
Posted by steves on Tuesday, March 6, 2007 9:45 AM

Saw this posted at one of the modern warship sites:

"Cottage Industry Models, Ltd. is pleased to announce the release of 2 new accessories sets for the Revell Kearsarge and Alabama kits. Each set is a replacement set of guns and carriages, which includes resin and metal cast carriages and barrels, worms, buckets, rammers, scoops, and other stuff. They also include "CIM-Rope" brand handmade rigging rope. These highly accurate guns sets fit the Revell kits well and will add a great deal of detail and richness to your model. Each set sells for $ 39.95 plus $ 6.00 S&H. They are available from Cottage Industry Models web site at http://www.cottage-industry-models.com/ or snail mail at 511 East Cambridge Ave. Greenwood, SC 29646-2253. You can also get them from Squadron or your local Hobby Shop."

I have no personal or financial relationship with Cottage Industries, I just thought I would pass this along as I know there is some interest in building these kits on this forum.   Unfortunately, CI does not seem to have posted photos of the guns and other accessories on their website.   I do have one of their Alexander Hamilton resin kits and from that, and other reviews of their products I have read, I would expect the quality to be fairly high.   The "CIM-Rope" is a very impressive looking facsimile of real rope, and would probably be a worthy addition to a model of this scale.   Hopefully, enough rigging is provided for those who wish to replace the kits' pre-formed ratlines.

Steves and Friends,

Here's a JPEG I just got from William of CIM. Looks like a better deal than the Revell parts or spending the time to scratchbuild.

My Kearsarge project is progressing nicely. I've removed all the external hull detail and I'm deciding exactly where to mount the masts. Everything is getting changed to bring it closer to a 1864 Kearsarge.

I'm still debating whether the mizzen shrouds should be three or four.

I'm also taking a good look at the midship anchors. Many more questions in the future, I'm sure...

I checked on that set also for my CSS Alabama, it looks good, I'm going to order it.  I just got a sample of the rope also and I'm going to order some of that also.
