Man, that's so tempting, for those of us with little shelf space, to make a dio with the hull awash . . .

Yankee Modelworks has two excellent 1/350 scale Balao Guppys in their inventory.

Greetings,

Nautilus Models is slowling putting together all the parts you need for a respectable Balao class sub.  They are producing after market parts for the Trumpeter (1;144 scale) and the Revell kits (1:72 scale).  If you can wait a year or so I would suspect that Revell will come out with straight Balao kit or at least a late war Gato.

I think they are working on a post war variant as well.  I would check with them and find out what their plan is.

Good luck!

Dave

Iron Bottom Sound makes some conversion sets for the Trumpeter 1:144 Gato

They also do sets for the Revell Lionfish (1:178 scale) and the big Gato (1:72) scale

Nautilus Models is also working on a set of conversion towers for the 1:144 kit.

Does anyone know of a kit of a Balao class submarine available?  I need a kit of this class either after the 1951 conversion to "Fleet Snorkel Submarine" or an aftermarket conversion set to do this.  Any help greatly appreciated
