Enterprise conversion question
Posted by modelbuilder on Tuesday, May 15, 2007 1:36 PM

Hi all

I am just curious as to what would be involved in converting the Tamiya USS Enterprise to the modern USS Ronald Reagan. Anyone got any ideas on this?

A huge amount if you want the result to look broadly like the new ship.   A much huger amount if you really want accuracy.   The two ship shares almost nothing except the anchor, propeller, and radar.  The hull is quite different, the shaft and rudder arangement is different, arrangement of elevators and sponsons are different, the shape of the flight deck is quite different, the superstructure is vastly different.

Why not start with Trumpeter's 1/350 Nimitz, then at least the amount of difference is less.

Jack up the airwing and slide a new ship in underneath.

No, no, I think he's on to something - taking "That which does not kill us makes us stronger" to its ultimate extreme.

Seriously, it's hard enough to update the Big E to what she looks like today, let alone turning this one-off into a completely different ship.

Yeah, I agree. Big "E" is more or less a nuclear powered Kitty Hawk, especially the flight deck, with a perfect cube for an island. But as they say in the street rod world, "with enough time, money, and effort, anything can  be done."

Nothing is impossible.....it's all a matter of probability, if there is one chance in infinity, it is possible. I think you are looking at about four chances.....in infinity. While the chances are better than "0", they're still not great.
