Here's a couple of photos of the Lindberg LSD (sorry for the delay):

This is a mostly-built kit, some of the small fittings are unassembled. It's quite a big model as you can see. It includes quite a few LVCP landing craft, but nothing larger (LCM etc.)
The scale is about 1/280, which is a fairly oddball scale, it's too large to display with 1/350 models, and probably too large to use PE in this scale for detailing, but is also a bit too small to display with 1/250-1/200 ships. (On the other hand, as honneamise says, it's just the right scale to use GHQ military vehicles as cargo!) Still, it's quite finely detailed by Lindberg standards (probably a later issue) and IMHO is well worth a re-issue.

Also here is the LSI/LCI, this is an early kit and quite crude, the scale is about 1/150 I think:

This is a built, painted model and rather dusty, also missing some small bits.

Thanks a bunch for the help guys, I'll keep a look out for one of those kits. Maybe any aftermarket stuff.

I have a built, second-hand Lindberg LSD which I'm intending to restore and rebuild (with extra detail) one day - also a LSI, and the kit of the LCT/LSU. I'll post some photos later if anyone's interested.

Nice memory, I have no recollection of that kit at all. Nor the LSI model they apparently also offered.

Cool [8D]

This link has four images of the kit linked on its page.

If I am not mistaken, Lindberg had a kit of an Ashland LSD issued in the 70s or even earlier.

I built one as a kid and it is long gone so I cannot really comment on spot-on accuracy but from what I remember it was pretty detailed and looked the point.

It is quite huge (around 45cm I guess) and the scale was more or less 1/285 - in scale with GHQ vehicles and figures in case you´d like to have a crew on it. It is full-hull and was intended for motorization but I think later issues dropped the motor. Unlike some other old Lindberg kits, the hull lines on this one seem very well depicted so it might be a good starting point to get a big model, and the price should be less than those resin kits. I doubt that it is available from the manufacturer right now but you should be able to pick one up from second-hand market.

Look for an LSD-1 USS Ashland Class. It was the first ship of that class, which includes the USS Carter-Hall.

Or try searching for models of any of the ships of the Ashland class.

This one must be tiny at 1/1250 scale... 4.39" plus or minus...

Hey everyone, I'm trying to find a model of a Landing Ship Dock. My grandfather was based on LSD-3, the USS Carter-Hall, in the early '50s and I'm trying to build him a model of it. Problem is... I can't find one. Any help would be awesome. Thanks.
