How to remove Magic Masker, or similar?
Posted by Gerarddm on Saturday, June 9, 2007 10:32 PM
I used Walther's Magic Masker #904-106 to mask off deck areas when I sprayed my model's hull- now I am finding it hard to simply rub off the stuff now that it has paint on top, especially on the fine ribbed deck seams, and who knows how I can get it off from around small deck fittings. Is there any kind of trick to doing it? Or is there a solvent I can use to get the stuff off that won't attack styrene?

I'm not familiar with that specific masker, but I have had luck using something available in the USA called Goo Gone - it's a citrus-based solvent that you can find in the laundry products aisle of most grocery stores, or in home improvement big boxc stores. A little bit on the end of a Q-tip is great for getting Bare Metal Foil residue off of aircraft canopies.

A great tip, thanks. It worked pretty well. I went over the Q-tipped areas with a white cloth, then washed the whole hull in soapy water, rinsed under running water, then hand dried. Hopefully I can now hand paint the deck with enamel. Next time though I think I will try to stay with BMF and masking tape and reduce use of liquid masker to a bare minimum.

 Thanks again!
