1/350 Tamiya Fletcher

Hey,., I know I'm real late here.. but I am going to build one also, but as the USS Stevens in her early fit .. Does anyone make a conversion for the Kingfisher float plane and catapult ?

No conversions per se.  

You can go the aftermarket route and buy a Fletcher PE set and a battleship/cruiser catapult set, and a resin or white metal Kingfisher plus some Evergreen and do it yourself.   If you're going to do the Stevens or the Halford you'll also need a 1:400 scale RN cruiser boat crane to stand in for the aircraft handling gear. 

Or for about the same cost as the kit and all the aftermarket you can but the YankeeModelworks kit which is an all inclusive.

Edit:  To bring Jeff Herne's seven year old post up to date,   Toms Modelworks no longer makes the square-bridge conversion set.    They discontinued that in advance of Trumpeter's release of a square-bridge Fletcher kit as the USS The Sullivans.   (Tom worked with Trumpeter and he knew it was coming.)

The Trump Sullivans has problems and requires a good aftermarket gun set to correct and enhance the too-tall 20mms and 40mms which lack details.    For that the recommended aftermarket is from L'Arsenal (buy it all inclusive,  less expensive that the same items a'la carte from them).  L'Arsenal also makes an excellent photo-etch set for the Trump Sullivans.

A complete resin ship kit with photoetched brass and white metal details (prop shafts, props, rudder, boats, boat davits, gun directors, secondary guns, catapult (PE or white metal), torpedo bank,  and Kingfisher).   

Because the kit is a Pringle which had a boom-style aircraft crane, you may still need another source of a lattice crane for a Stevens/Halford model.

I don't see it on the current YMW catalog,  but I have one on the shelf just waiting to mount the Kingfisher and dull coat it overall.

Lets run some numbers ... for comparison a YMW USS Johnston is 97.48 at Freetime.

The Tam Fletcher is roughly 30 bucks (your prices may vary).   The GMM Fletcher brass is 35.00.   A Toms Modelworks King George V set (for the crane) is 27.00, and their early BB set (for the catapult) is 18.75.  The latter two are not sold individually.     The YMW white metal kingfisher is 4.75.      The cost for the project by the piece is now over 115 bucks.  

You can see that a complete "expensive" resin kit can in actuality be less expensive than a comparable plastic kit when you consider the whole purchase.

Ouch...  that will be more than I want to spend..lol. I'll probably shop around and pick up the PE and "stuff" ,, the reason I'm going this route is that I used to read comic books as a kid..( still do ), and in the backs of Sgt Rock, GI COMBAT, LOSERS, etc,, there were stories of the USS Stevens, and I always really liked those and their artwork.. so.. I thought I'd build it as a project from my childhood..lol..

I agree with you. The Eduard is too soft to handle. It bends out of shape easily. I ordered the Gold Medal to finish my Fletcher. It's a pity because the Eduard seems more interesting with all the parts included.
