Hello with my model
Posted by turkishpirate on Saturday, June 30, 2007 5:57 PM

Hello everbody from Turkey

I've been visiting this forum everyday for one year. Today I decided to join this group. I'm 39 years old and I returned modelling last year after 29 year. All the models that I built before are not good to show here.

I espicially want to share my first important model with you. Before explanations about my model I want to thanks "Donnie" from forum. I've used the explanations that Donnie made here about Wappen Von Hamburg. I painted the ship ( Lindberg's Captain Kidd ) according to the Donnie's recipe but with some small changes.

At the beginning I drilled every cannon with hand-drill. This was a very crazy job for eyes. But I prefer to do this procedure in order to get a lifelike seeing. After paint procedure  I changed plastic sails with tissue. I tied tissue with thread and painted with Nescafe. Then I got rid of plastic ratlines and built new ones with thread. I used Heller's loom a line. I scratchbuilt also barrels. Because I couldn't find suitable barrels in the market for this scale. After all of them I painted crew and placed them on the ship.

This ship will be very important in my life because my father has died during the construction. After I decided to finish the model in the memory of my father. He loved my skills about painting and modelling. In this period modelling has helped me to keep my feelings better as a physicotherapy.

I hope to share my new models as soon as possible.

With my best regards.

Very well done. This has helped me because this is the kit that I am going to use to make my version of the POTC Black Pearl. I need a few more photos of the Pearl so I can compare them with your photos so I can plan my mods. Begin with lots of black paint.

For the past three years, when it came time to plan the vacation, Istanbul was on the table. Every time that idea got axed because of some Middle Eastern unrest. I'd like to visit Turkey but the political climate does not seem to favor we Americans at the moment. Good that a forum can bring us together for a common good. In the meantime I am going to study your excellent photos as a quide in my quest to build the Black Pearl.

Hi Everybody

Thank you very much for your comments about my model and condolence for my father.

Robert : I used enamel paints on the ship. For decks : First coat was Tamiya XF-57 Buff, second coat was Model Master 1735 Wood and thrid coat was a mix of Humbrol 103 Matt Cream 70% and Humbroll 34 Matt White 30%. After then I sanded surface lightly to get a desired effect.

Kapudan Emir Effendi : Hoşbulduk. I'm very glad to meet with you as a Turkish modeller. I have read your writings everytime in the forum.

Chevit2001 : I'm living in Istanbul. I want to help your brother if he needs anytime. What is he doing (job) in İzmir?

PeeweeBiggs : Please don't hesitate to visit İstanbul. İstanbul is a big city and you will be in rest as much as in the other big cities on the world. If you decide I want to help you in your İstanbul vacation. According Turkish people there may be some problems between governments not between nations. Turkish people are very hospitable. If you want more pics or explanations about my model please email me.

With my best wishes.

A fine piece of craftsmanship and your father would be proud to be remembered through such skill and patience as you show here.  I'm particularly impressed by the rigging because every line and turnbuckle is straight, even and true with no warping of the masts, yardarms, bowsprit or any other parts.  That's tough to do, especially when you have a lot of them already in place and have to work through the lines to get the job done.

Welcome to our forum and your presence here increases the level of excellence we all strive for.

Life is tough. Then you die.

Hmmmm...and you feel that I would be safe in traveling there? How is the weather early september? My options were; Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Egypt, but now perhaps Turkey. I am somewhat limited in where I can travel as my lady friend is only allowed to travel to a few countries without a visa. We Americans, on the other hand, can go almost anywhere in the world, aside form N. Korea, Cuba, and that is about it.
