Which would you choose?

Spending my money on smoking here.... but I'd still get the GATO!

It's on my "to get" list....

Well, I don't intend to build either but if I was pressed I'd go for the I-400 - far more unconventional and 'interesting'.  I would have preferred one in 1:200 to match the Nichimo I-19 though, I haven't seen any evidence Nichimo ever did one, does anyone know?.

These monster subs did indeed have phenomenal range and could have circled the globe, but their size, poor underwater speed and handling and shallow diving capability told against them I understand.

Bit like the Yamato class - very spectacular but ultimately of little value.

They charge what the market will bear.  If their stuff stopped selling at current prices, then they'd lower them somewhat.

As for the I-400 vs. the Gato, I'd have to say that I nver plan on getting the Gato - simply because it would never fit or survive in my house.  I have way too many kits I need to find display room for to take up that much space with just one, no matter how magnificent it may be.  And with 2 dogs and 2 cats, and a wife with a lead featherduster, it would be like giving it a one-way ticket to the Bungo Strait.

Now the I-400, on the other hand...will have to wait.  With a stash the size of a small country, I have plenty of work ahead of me already.  But all things being equal, I'd take the I-400 simply because I've got a soft spot for the Imperial Japanese Navy.  And the little planes would be really neat, too.

Although the their price for the I400 seems a bit out of line, yesterday I saw Tamiya's 1/700 E-class destroyer going for $18.  I have the same thing as part of the Hood / E-class combo (which I got for $30, so I guess the Hood was a steal at $12) and it consists of two small sprues and a decal sheet.  Its not a lot of kit for $18.  I like Tamiya kits for their consistant fit and quality, but sometimes their pricing has me scratching my head.

That's an easy one,you spend your money on whatever makes you happy,some people go to a casino and gamble their money away,thats ok,some spend their entertainment money on smokes,who am I to say thats wrong,whatever makes you happy.

me personally the Gato is too big for me,I'm going to get the I-400 from spruebrothers for $51.00
