The last time I saw the Wallace Beery "long John Silver", in the 1934 "Treasure Island", was on a TV show called "The Million Dollar Movie", some time in the mid to late fifties.
Hispaniola, was most likely, an active sailing ship at the time of filming, and, unfortunately, my memory of that film has faded to "inaccessible". I took a brief look at internet sources, and can only find reference to the movie, and nothing about the ship. I just recently purchased a DVD of the Disney version, with Robert Newton as Long John Silver. I suppose I like that version better because of the TV series "Long John Silver" that he starred in. As to the
Hispaniola, the 1941 edition of Stevenson's Treasure Island, in Squire Trelawney's letter to Dr. Livesey, she is described: You never imagined a sweeter schooner....a child might sail her...200 tons, name Hispaniola. Interestingly, all the illustrations in the book, indicate she was a topsail schooner.
